
2007 Projects
These are works of love and the result of donations from our benefactors and the positive accomplishments of our volunteers in various parts of Latin America.
January 2007
- Conference by Fr. Hoyos in San Salvador on family values.
February 2007
- A MAPAVI rural clinic was inaugurated in the marginal area of Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Bolivia. Toys and school supplies were also distributed to the children in the poorest areas of that country.
March 2007
- Construction was finished on the MAPAVI Multicultural Center, the rectory, and the steeple of the Church of the Assumption, which is considered to be a cultural and historical national heritage site in Izalco, El Salvador. The church had been destroyed in the 2001 earthquakes.
- MAPAVI paid for eye surgery for Roberto García, a Salvadoran child.
April 2007
- MAPAVI funded a successful kidney transplant for Osmin Sorto from Usulatán, El Salvador.
May 2007
- 12 wheelchairs were donated in El Salvador and Colombia - 4 wheelchairs in Cali, Colombia and 8 in Sensuntepeque and San Salvador, El Salvador
- 60 scholarships were provided to high school students of limited means in Cali. A campaign was sponsored: "Give a pencil and a notebook to build peace."
- MAPAVI paid for medicines and the return trip to Bolivia for Fito Paniagua and his family.
June 2007
- Father Hoyos and a group of MAPAVI volunteers testified at a Congressional hearing for the rights of children and in support of early childhood health and education in the United States. We also joined in an ecumenical prayer rally for a just immigration law. Representatives Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) and Joe Baca (D-CA) and several Protestant pastors spoke at the rally in front of the Capitol in Washington, DC.
- Mass participation and collaboration of MAPAVI volunteers and board of directors in a cultural and religious event in support of our founder and president Fr. Hoyos and other relatives of Dr. Jairo Hoyos and the other lawmakers who were assassinated in Colombia, calling for peace, justice, and freedoom for the hostages.
- Participation of Fr. Hoyos and MAPAVI volunteers in huge demonstrations for peace, freedom for the hostages in Colombia, and the return of the bodies of the assassinated lawmakers to their families.
July 2007
- Participation in a radiothon to benefit the victims of the cold wave in the upper Andean regions of Peru.
